Step by step

From your first message to a finished job

    Tell us about the job

    Choose a service and answer a few quick questions. It usually takes about two minutes. Add your postcode, when you'd like the work done, your budget and photos if you have them. We verify your email and mobile number to keep out fake accounts.

    We check your request

    Our team reviews each request before it goes out. It is then sent to approved tradespeople who do that type of work in your area. Your phone number, email and full address are not shown to them while they quote.

    Compare up to 3 quotes

    Each job can receive up to three quotes. Compare prices, profiles and reviews, and message tradespeople in the chat (video calls are available too). If you need a site visit before a final price, arrange it in the chat.

    Not happy with the quotes? You don't have to accept any of them, and you can clear them to receive new ones. How many quotes you get depends on your trade and area, so occasionally you may receive fewer than three.

    Accept a quote and choose how to pay

    Your card is authorised securely through Stripe when you accept. The money is only taken and passed to the tradesperson when you confirm the job is finished. Larger jobs can be paid in up to three stages (milestones).

    💷 Pay the tradesperson directly

    You can agree to pay by cash or bank transfer. In that case the payment is between you and the tradesperson, and GetMaster does not hold or protect that money.

    The work gets done

    Follow the job in My Jobs: you'll see when your tradesperson is on the way, has started and has finished. When the work is done, they add a photo of the finished job.

    Confirm, then leave a review

    Check the work and confirm it's complete to release a card payment. If something isn't right, report it in My Jobs before confirming.

    Important: once the tradesperson marks the job as finished, you have 24 hours to confirm or report a problem. If you do neither, a card payment is released to the tradesperson automatically.

    Finally, leave an honest review. It helps other homeowners and good tradespeople.

How tradespeople are checked

Secure card payments

Card payments are processed by Stripe, a regulated payment provider. Your card details go straight to Stripe and are never stored on GetMaster's servers.

Your details stay private

Tradespeople don't see your phone number, email or full address while they quote. You decide what to share and when.

Please note: our checks reduce risk but can't guarantee the quality of every job. Tradespeople are independent businesses, and the agreement for the work is between you and the tradesperson you choose. For regulated work, ask to see the right registration, for example Gas Safe for gas work or a registered electrician for notifiable electrical work.

Frequently asked questions

Is GetMaster free for homeowners?+
Yes. Posting a job and receiving quotes is free, with no obligation to hire. Tradespeople pay GetMaster a fee on jobs they win.
Do I have to accept a quote?+
No. You can use GetMaster just to compare prices. You can also clear the quotes you've received and ask for new ones.
When is my card charged?+
Your card is authorised when you accept a quote, and the payment is taken when you confirm the job is finished, or automatically 24 hours after the tradesperson marks it finished if you haven't confirmed or reported a problem. For staged (milestone) payments, each stage is paid when you approve it.
What if something goes wrong?+
Report it in My Jobs as soon as possible, and before confirming the job. Our team will look into it with you and the tradesperson. You can also contact us through the Help Centre. See our Support Promise for how our team helps.
Why do you verify my email and phone?+
To stop spam and fake requests, so tradespeople can trust that jobs are genuine. See our Privacy Policy for how we use your data.
Who carries out the work?+
Independent tradespeople and companies. GetMaster runs the platform that connects you, checks tradespeople before they can quote and handles card payments, but does not carry out the work itself. See our Terms of Service.
